Where:
Lower Saranac Lake, Adirondack Park, New York When: Departure time: 7:30 AM Tuesday May 26 Return time: 3:00 – 4:30 PM Friday May 29 What: This trip is intended to mark the important transition being undertaken by our students as they proceed into their high school years. As a group, we will utilize the shared experience as a metaphor and real example of unification, teamwork, and challenge for the class as it moves into a new phase of education and personal growth. Safety: As with all experiential education, this trip is designed to be a super fun learning opportunity. In order for this to occur for all participants, we ask that all students and parents/guardians review and sign the attached behavior contract, with the understanding that all students will be held accountable to the responsibilities listed. Communication: During the trip, adults will carry cell phones, for emergencies. If a situation arises in which a student on the trip needs to make family contact, or if family feels the need to contact that student, we ask that the adult leaders of the group serve as the avenue for such communication. Cell phones won’t be a part of our days on the lake, unless they need to be. Contact numbers will be provided prior to departure. Transportation: Students will be transported in chaperones’ vehicles. Learning: This trip will present several learning opportunities for the students involved. We will integrate mathematics, science, English, and design technology. Costs: The student fee is $50, which will contribute to costs of the 4-day trip. Costs for the trip include: campsites, equipment, food and transportation. No student will be denied access due to financial constraints. Supervision: We strive to provide a 3:1 student to adult ratio, with two additional adult leaders capable of transitioning between groups and offering additional support when needed. Each student team will be responsible for staying within agreed contact with their designated supervising adult for the duration of the trip. The teacher leaders will be: Trevor Tait Tracey McNaughton Kevin Carney Paul Bialowaz Alice Day Thom Costello |
